Time To Feel Love

On this album I have set out to explore and approach each song with depth and honesty. I am hoping you will hear my playing and singing in a new light. This sound is different from any other recording I have made; one I have been working on for years.  I felt it was time to show up and be myself.

Time to Feel Love is an album that will take you on a journey through time and space, in a rich tapestry of styles, yet unified throughout with groove and swing.

I am so grateful to have collaborated with such talented players on this recording. Guitarist, Cameron Jones has played an integral part in its making. You will hear in his playing not only mastery of technique, but a passion in his melodies and rhythms as he weaves in and out with sensitivity and space.

Jim Lyons on trumpet has been playing professionally for over six decades. Always the listener, Jim’s playing is never contrived. His understated lines add subtlety, depth and character to the ensemble.

The rhythm section made up of Oscar Peterson on bass and Chilean, Francisco Rojas on drums provide the driving swing with skill and artistry making the listener want to dance and groove.

A special mention goes to David Seidel on bass. His acoustic contributions on two tracks elevate the album, particularly our exploration in a modern blues style on the songs Django by John Lewis and Dat Dere by Bobby Timmons.

The band’s recorded this album at Electric Avenue Studios, where Sound Engineer, Phil Punch, really captured the ambience and textures you’ll hear on this album.

Sweet Substitute

This is the second album by Carolyn Packer’s Stompin’ Rhythm Aces. Like the first album, There’ll be some changes made, this one threads traditional blues and jazz sounds with a driving swing, bringing a freshness and vitality to each song.

Carolyn Packer’s unmistakable style on the piano and vocals pay homage to the blues and jazz music that is at the core of this album. Greg Englert’s wonderful composition, “My little sweetheart”, along with his rendition of “Only you”, bring forth Louis Armstrong’s unique vocal style and daring trumpet. David Ridyard’s haunting reeds weave magically through the tracks in an early New Orleans style that is rarely heard today, and Cameron Jones’ gypsy jazz guitar contributes a spice and richness to the mix. Ed Rapo and Jimmy Fletcher on bass and drums form the band’s rhythmic backbone, encapsulating the driving swing that makes audiences jump and dance.

This is the band’s second time recording at Electric Avenue Studios. Sound Engineer, Phil Punch, has once again masterfully captured the live spontaneity inherent in the bands music while giving it space to breathe and room to groove.

There’ll Be Some Changes Made

This is Carolyn’s first album with the Stompin’ Rhythm Aces and was inspired by her 2018 journey to New Orleans.

These songs emerged out of the New Orleanian culture – the music, food, and wonderful hospitality of the people of New Orleans.

The Stompin’ Rhythm Aces are an ensemble of wonderful musicians. Carolyn gratefully acknowledges their help and support throughout this project.

Special thanks also to:

Bill Dudley for bringing the Stompin’ Rhythm Aces together as the New Orleanians
